Uba-advice: Selecting the best cot for you and baby

Your baby will spend many hours over many years in their cot, ideally, sleeping soundly. Selecting the right one is a big decision! Don’t worry, we’ve put together this handy guide to help you ensure you make a great investment in your baby’s sleep happiness!

Why finding a good baby cot is so important.

Your baby will be sleeping in their cot for at least 2-3 years. With this is mind, a quality build and timeless design are important features to consider. Select a classic design, which appeals to your sense of style.

Invest in a cot which grows with your baby. A conversion kit, which allows the cot to be turned into a junior bed is an innovative way to squeeze some extra time out of your investment. Junior bed conversion kits are available for our entire range of Ubabub cots.

Safety first!

Naturally, the number one priority when selecting any nursery furniture is the safety of your child. Investing in a cot that is thoughtfully designed and of an impeccable manufacturing quality is paramount to ensuring the safety of your baby.

All cots sold in Australia, must be certified under the mandatory Australian safety standard AS/NZS 2172. These standards are renowned globally for their stringent requirements and testing.

The cot
  • All cots must be of a minimum depth to prevent falls
  • Footholds which allow your baby to climb out of the cot must also be avoided
  • The size of all opening must be considered, small to prevent your baby falling from the cot but large enough that little limbs and fingers do not
    get caught
  • There can be no protruding parts or sharp edges with the cot design
The mattress
  • A cot mattress must be firm. While a soft mattress seems like it might be more comfortable, it can also be a safety hazard.
  • The mattress must fit snugly within the baby cot with minimal gaps
  • Consider an Australian made mattress for low VOC.
